Great Pyrs & Paws Rescue

"Meet Coralee"

Meet Coralee. She is a wonderful Great Pyrenees who is about eight years old. Last year she was rescued by Great Pyrs & Paws from a hoarding situation in Texas.

As a senior dog who spent most of her life living outdoors in the southern United States, Coralee was becoming increasingly curious about indoor dog life. It was evident that she longed for cooler climates so much better fitted for her rich fur coat.

From spring through fall, Texas heat is extreme! Even with AC the temperatures are still too high for a dog with this much coat. It also seemed to effect Coralee more than other dogs, so Great Pyrs & Paws was determined to carefully transport her to another state.

"She arrived on June 25th, ready for a break"

In June 2022 a loving couple on Oregon agreed to welcome Coralee into their home as a long-term foster in the Homer Senior Housing Program in Oregon.

The problem – how would Coralee get there? Typically, the transportation cost for a foster dog would be offset by an adopted dog’s transport fee. But with adoptions for organizations across the country being low, this was not the case for Coralee.

Still, Great Pyrs & Paws did not want to keep her waiting! With the help of generous supporters just like you, TagsforHope was able to provide a grant and help transport Coralee to her loving foster family. She arrived on June 25th, ready for a break, after driving all day with talkative puppies on board, and settled right in!

"Coralee's Update"

This loving girl found warmth and patience with her new family. They welcomed her into their home with fluffy beds and a special pillow just for her! She even loved her new crate, and climbed right in for a nap.

The cooler Oregon climate agrees with Coralee, and she has fully embraced retirement life. Having been rescued just last year, she seems to be learning about everything for the first time as a senior. But mostly, she takes things slow.

She doesn’t ask for much at all – just the basics. She loves taking long naps in the air conditioned house, listen to song birds in the evergreens and smell all the flowers in the backyard. She is a very tidy girl and carefully cleans her paws after meals, and loves to be around for movie time with her new family.

Best of all is that Coralee feels completely safe in her new home! She does really well when left alone in the house, but always makes sure to get up and greet her family when they return. She sniffed noses with the neighbor’s dog Rex and was wagging her tail the whole time. Coralee even sniffed noses with her new cat brother, after which he climbed right into her crate for a nap!
