"He was saved from euthanasia through a pretty minor surgery..."

In December 2024, Ottawa Dog Rescue received a call to help save a 5 year old Australian Cattle Dog named Dingo. Dingo was surrendered to the animal shelter and brought to the vet to be euthanized.

Dingo had bladder stones and needed surgery to remove them. Unfortunately, it was his second time getting bladder stones and so he was considered a high medical risk – which is the reason why he was to be euthanized.

If Dingo was to be neutered, the chance of bladder stones to reoccur would be significantly lower. The good news is that both procedures could be performed at the same time!

The vet staff took it upon themselves to reach out to rescues to try and save Dingo, given his young age and sweet nature. Ottawa Dog Rescue has agreed to help.

The vet and the staff say that Dingo is very sweet and has been around other dogs at the clinic with no issues!

"Dingo is very sweet!"

Currently he still has a catheter in and is on a low dose of painkillers – but not enough to alter his personality. He is, of course, uncomfortable, so his eating habits are off, but he is relaxing and snuggling as much as he can.

Once Dingo feels a little better, he can be placed in foster care, where no doubt his full personality will emerge. The bladder stones will also be tested in the lab to determine the best aftercare for Dingo, whether it is diet changes or supplements.

Thanks to the support of TagsfoHope lovers, like you, Dingo’s life after treatment will be priceless! He will have his life back, after what was a pretty minor surgery, and will be able to find a forever home.

Update: Dingo had to stay at the clinic a little longer than anticipated. There were complications during his surgery and unfortunately he had a tear in his urethra. It means he needed a catheter for at least 7 days, and had to extend his clinic stay for proper care. But he is on the road to recovery and, hopefully, after some more tests, this sweet boy can go on to his foster home very soon!
