"This sweet girl was completely alone"
Jovie was first discovered when she wandered onto someone’s cabin property. She was miserable-looking, her skin was bright red, and she she was dragging her hind leg – it was badly injured or even broken. And worst of all, this sweet girl was completely alone and, evidently, has been for quite some time.
The property owners sadly could not keep her, as they have their own adopted pup, but they contacted Barrhead Animal Rescue Society to give Jovie immediate care she so desperately needed. This is where she was named Jovie – which means ‘happy’!
Upon further examination, it was determined that the tip of Jovie’s femur was badly damaged, her skin was inflamed, and she also appeared to be completely deaf.
After the medical assessment, Barrhead Animal Rescue Society gave her a comfortable place to sleep and attempted to find a possible owner before proceeding with her treatment. None of this deterred Jovie from being the sweetest girl ever!

The vet recommended the tip of her femur to be removed. It would eliminate her pain and allow the muscles around the hip joint to form a ball – hopefully, saving her leg. The vet also performed a skin-scrape to better assess and treat Jovie’s inflamed skin.
Her skin condition could be nutrition-based so she was given a limited-ingredient diet. In addition, Jovie was put on a strict kennel rest and leash-only walks to give her the best chance to heal!
