"He deserves to live a full, happy life and run around pain-free!"

Little Macaroni arrived at Austin Humane Society from a high-kill shelter. Austin Humane took Macaroni in because he was a candidate for euthanasia at the previous shelter due to his medical issues. They were fully committed to saving Macaroni and providing him with all the care he needs before he can be adopted. AAustin Humane Society, he has no risk of euthanasia.

When Macaroni arrived, he was only about 2 months old – a brand new puppy! Unfortunately, he was entirely non-weight bearing on his front right paw as it appeared to be a bit shorter than the rest of his little legs. This was likely the result of prior trauma. Since he was a stray, there was no way of telling whether Macaroni suffered an accident or was hit by a car before.

To correct this issue and to ensure that he can have the best quality of life, Macaroni needed surgery. The surgery would include correcting one of the ligaments in his leg, to ensure that it can grow over time as Macaroni gets bigger. Because he is so young, the chances of the surgery being successful are very high! He will likely regain the full range of motion in the affected leg over time.

The goal and wish, of everybody involved, is for Macaroni to live a full, happy life, running around and playing pain-free. He deserves the highest quality care to help him walk and find his forever home without any further complications!

"Macaroni's surgery was a success!"

Little Macaroni has an amazingly high chance of a full recovery, but that road is still ahead of him.

After the surgery, he will need physical therapy and it will be at least several weeks before he is medically cleared for adoption. However, Austin Humane sees small breed dogs adopted within a very short time and, given his age, they anticipate that Macaroni will be adopted within 48 hours!

He is as happy and playful as any young puppy can be. He has an outgoing personality, is very gentle and loves to give kisses to his human friends. And just take a look at those big puppy eyes!

With the help of generous supporters just like you, TagsforHope was able to provide a grant that was vital to helping Macaroni get healthy and start looking for his fur-ever-loving home!

Update:

Macaroni’s surgery was a success! The surgeon was able to get Macaroni’s leg straightened and his elbow to bend properly. He will need to wear a bandage on that leg for at least a week, as well as 2-3 weeks of crate rest – no small ordeal for a play-loving puppy. But there is nothing he can’t accomplish with the amazing care from the Austin Humane team. We thank you for your generosity – we would not be able to help pets like Macaroni without your support!
