"Oreo came into care with an open fracture on his right front leg..."

Oreo came into care of the Manitoba Mutts Dog rescue after being struck by a truck, resulting in an open fracture of his front right leg. He was immediately admitted to the pet hospital, where his broken leg was tended to and his unkempt and matted fur was shaved off. Overall, almost 4lbs of mats was taken off poor Oreo!

The very next day after his surgery, Oreo went to a foster home for quiet recovery. He is a laid back and easy-going pup, always eager for snuggles belly rubs. He absolutely loves his food and licks his lips in anticipation when he sees his foster mom bringing his dinner!

Though he hasn’t met many new people, he loves the other cats and dogs in his foster home and tries to play with them. But this would have to wait until his leg is fully healed – the vet projects the recovery period to be around five long weeks.

"He is an avid bird and squirrel watcher"

Despite his trauma and being in a lot of pain, Oreo never lost his love of life! He is an avid bird and squirrel watcher when he is out in the yard for potty breaks and fresh air!

Oreo is even used to his crate now and has come to accept that his new lifestyle is just fine. And it is so needed for him to heal! Oreo had a permanent plate and screws put in to hold the bones in his leg in place while he heals.

He also cannot run, jump, play or put much pressure on his leg until the bones fuse and he is given the all clear.  But with the help of generous TagsforHope supporters like you, we were able to provide a grant that allowed Manitoba Mutts to provide Oreo the medical attention he needed to heal and to thrive in a forever home!
