"7-month old pup, who had a rough start in life"

Meet Pretzels, a 7-month-old pup who has had a really rough start to his young life. He suffered from body-wide rashes, open wounds,  hair loss, scabs and scarring.

Due to being in a remote area of Texas and his poor health condition at such a young age, meant that Pretzels was doomed to be euthanized. But Great Pyrs & Paws Rescue recognized from his soft, innocent gaze, that he hasn’t given up yet! They transferred Pretzels from the crowded shelter in Texas, and immediately welcomed him into foster care.

Under the gentle and consistent care of his foster mom, Pretzels began receiving the veterinary attention he so desperately needed and began recovering from day one! He even started going by the nickname ‘Little Man’ because he looked so much like an old man, but was obviously a puppy.

His foster mom says he loves treats and bones, and he perks his little head up when he hears the bag rustling. He is also enjoying all of the snuggles and sneaks onto the couch for a better seat in front of the TV, after playing around with his foster mates.

He loves toys too and even tosses a toy for himself to fetch and has the cutest happy prance! Pretzels also learned to be potty trained after only a couple of days and even rings the bell to ask to go outside. Currently, Pretzels is going through basic training and socialization, which is pure pleasure to everyone involved, since he is so young, smart, and gentle.

"He is starting to look like a proper Great Pyrenees!"

Little Man’s wounds are taking time to heal and he’s had several gentle baths to help soothe his inflamed skin. He is starting to look like a proper Great Pyrenees and doesn’t mind wearing pyjamas to protect his skin, while it heals.

Great Pyrs & Paws Rescue incurred medical and transportation expenses during his care. But they have a continued are plan for Pretzels, while his skin clears up.

Once he is better, Pretzels will have to be neutered and receive vaccinations. After that, there is no doubt that he will find an adoptive home outside of the Texas area – preferably in the Pacific Northwest – which will free up space for another foster pup to be nurtured towards a brighter future.

Thanks to the many helping hands and the generous contribution of TagsforHope supporters like you, we were able to help provide critical care for Pretzels’ recovery. It also helped cover the transportation costs as Pretzels makes his way to his forever home!

Update: Little Man has transformed into his best self! His personality bloomed over just a few weeks as he learned to be a puppy. His wounds and infections healed and his energy is up and he is very healthy overall. Pretzels is fully trained and gets along with everyone and ready to move-in with his forever family!
